if you want it to handle the best possible on the street without it being harsh it's the way to go. It or Bilstein are the only thing I recommend for coil-overs other than pure race shocks. The B16/PSS9 is the only other one I'd recommend, but if you can afford it the nod goes to hlins.

I use the Ohlins coilovers on my RX8, which is mainly used for street use and I found the standard spring rates to be too soft in the rear but the fronts to be fine.
I changed my rear springs to about 350lbs/in and it feels pretty good to me now.

RX8 road track coilovers from OHLINS give Series 1 and Series 2 owners a purpose-built suspension platform for street and circuit. The MAS-MI00S1 kit centres on OHLINS DFV technology. It pairs dual-flow-valve damping with independent ride-height and spring-preload adjustment. That combination puts genuine chassis tuning within reach, whether the goal is a tighter daily setup or a sharper circuit configuration.

RX8 Road Track Coilovers Key Features

  • DFV damping technology manages compression and rebound across varying road and circuit conditions. No separate adjusters are needed for each function.
  • Spring rates of 80 N/mm front and 40 N/mm rear are specified for the RX8’s weight distribution and rotary-engine balance.
  • Separate ride-height adjustment from spring preload lets you set stance and damper travel independently. This delivers more accurate alignment results.
  • Front dampers feature aluminium top mounts, keeping unsprung weight in check. That matters most on a front-heavy rotary platform.
  • Rear dampers retain the original top mounts and share the same single compression and rebound adjuster layout as the fronts. That keeps feel consistent across both axles.
  • Recommended lowering range spans 20-50 mm front and 25-50 mm rear. This gives owners clear setup reference points without guesswork.
  • Finally, rebuildable construction and ISO 9227 salt-spray corrosion testing mean the kit is built to last well beyond a single season of hard use.

For RX8 enthusiasts committed to a road and track build, the real reward shows up at turn-in. The DFV valving responds to the rotary’s quick directional changes with less mid-corner float. Worn or budget dampers simply cannot match that precision. Whether you are pushing hard on circuit or refining the daily setup, this coilover kit is a system you can keep improving as your driving develops.

A front chassis upgrade pairs well with the CUSCO Strut Brace Type OS (Front) with Brake Cylinder Stopper, which stiffens the front bay and supports the more direct feedback these dampers unlock. The AUTOEXE Lower Arm Bar (Front) works in the same plane as the coilovers, reducing chassis flex under lateral load and complementing the lower front end well.

If a different damper spec suits your coilover setup, the KTS SC Damper System Coilover Set is the other option in the range. For full MAS-MI00S1 technical background on these road and track coilovers, visit the official OHLINS website.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do these Ohlins coilovers fit both Series 1 and Series 2 RX8 models?

Yes, the Ohlins MAS-MI00S1 kit is specified to fit Mazda RX8 Series 1 (2003-2008) and Series 2 (2009-2012) models, so both generations are covered by the one kit.

How much can I lower my RX8 with these coilovers?

The recommended lowering range is 20-50 mm at the front and 25-50 mm at the rear from standard ride height. Ride height is adjusted independently from spring preload, giving you accurate control over stance without compromising suspension setup.

What spring rates do these Ohlins coilovers use?

The MAS-MI00S1 kit runs 80 N/mm springs at the front and 40 N/mm at the rear. The front-biased spring rate split suits the RX8's chassis balance and is part of Ohlins' Road and Track calibration for this application.

What is DFV technology and why does it matter for a rotary-powered car?

DFV (Dual Flow Valve) is an Ohlins damper technology that manages compression and rebound behaviour more consistently as road and circuit conditions change. For an RX8, which rewards precise chassis balance, having damping that stays composed across varied surfaces helps the driver get the most from the car's inherent handling.

Can I adjust compression and rebound separately on these coilovers?

The front and rear dampers each use a single adjuster that controls both compression and rebound together. Ride height and spring preload are adjusted separately from damping, giving you meaningful setup flexibility without the complexity of independent high-speed and low-speed circuits.

Do the front dampers require new top mounts?

Yes, the front dampers come with aluminium top mounts included in the kit. The rear dampers retain the RX8's original top mounts, so no rear top mount replacement is needed.

Are these Ohlins coilovers rebuildable and serviceable?

Yes, the MAS-MI00S1 uses rebuildable construction, meaning the dampers can be serviced and rebuilt rather than replaced outright. The units also pass ISO 9227 corrosion salt-spray testing, which speaks to their durability in real-world Australian conditions.

Are these coilovers suitable for daily road use or are they track-only?

The MAS-MI00S1 is part of Ohlins' Road and Track range, designed to be usable across both environments. The adjustable damping and ride height mean you can dial in a setup that works on public roads, then refine it further for circuit days without fitting an entirely different suspension system.
