I stopped by the Rmagic shop when I visited Japan in January. I purchased the Shift ****, and the Shift "color" (what was probably meant to be collar). I have not seen any specific threads on this or installs or how it fits, so I did not know what to expect. So in case anyone was wondering how it fits or what it does...

In conclusion.

- It will not work with the Axial Flow short throw shifter.

- It will not work with the Rmagic short throw shifter. (this was stated in the product description on japanparts)

- It will work with the stock shifter.

- It does not snap onto the shifter like the stock collars do.

- It does feel good with the stock shifter, but not as good as the axial flow.

- It cost me 3,000

- Their Shop is super cool.

When I thought the shifter movement was ok, but could do with some help. I got this bush from RX8 Upgrades, talk about game changer! Fits snug and the shift points omg!!

$90

The RX8 nylon shift collar is a direct replacement for the plastic collar at the base of the Series 1 six-speed shifter mechanism. Age and heat cycles cause the factory part to wear or become brittle. That wear introduces play at the lever, making every gear change feel vague. This R-MAGIC part is made in Japan by a legendary rotary engine tuner. It eliminates that slop at its source.

RX8 Nylon Shift Collar Key Features

  • Direct fitment suits the Mazda RX8 Series 1 six-speed shifter with no modification required.
  • Manufactured in Japan by R-MAGIC, a respected rotary specialist with deep experience in SE3P development.
  • The blue nylon construction replaces a plastic collar known to wear and crack with age and repeated heat cycles.
  • Eliminating collar wear removes lever play, restoring a positive, mechanical feel through every gate.
  • Finally, when diagnosing a vague shift action, inspecting this collar is a logical first step before pursuing more involved remedies.

For RX8 enthusiasts, a degraded collar makes the six-speed gate feel sloppy on every drive. A new RX8 nylon shift collar tightens that mechanical connection immediately. The result is a more deliberate, confident lever action. You notice it from the very first gear change.

Pair this collar with the R-MAGIC Super Magnetic Gearbox Drain Plug, which protects the transmission internals while you have the drivetrain in focus. The AUTOEXE Nappa Leather Gearknob (Round Shape, Red Stitch) adds a quality hand-feel to match the restored precision below. To round out the interior, the GENUINE MAZDA OEM Leather Gear Shifter Boot Surround refreshes the surrounding trim at the same time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which RX8 models does this nylon shift collar fit?

The R-MAGIC nylon shift collar is designed for the Mazda RX8 Series 1 six-speed shifter mechanism, covering the 2003 to 2008 model years. It is a direct replacement requiring no modification to fit.

What causes the RX8 Series 1 shift collar to wear out?

The factory plastic collar degrades through a combination of age and repeated heat cycles inside the transmission tunnel. Over time the material becomes brittle or wears down, which introduces play and vagueness into the shift lever feel.

How do I know if my RX8 shift collar needs replacing?

The clearest sign is vagueness or noticeable play at the gear lever, where gear changes feel loose or imprecise rather than positive and defined. Inspecting the collar for cracking, brittleness or visible wear is the logical first step when diagnosing a shifter feel complaint on the Series 1 six-speed.

Does fitting this collar require any modification to the gearbox?

No. The R-MAGIC nylon shift collar is a direct fitment replacement for the Series 1 six-speed shifter mechanism and requires no modification to the gearbox internals or the surrounding assembly.

Why is nylon used instead of the original plastic material?

Nylon is more resistant to the heat cycles and wear that cause the factory plastic collar to crack or degrade over time. Replacing the worn original with a fresh nylon unit restores the mechanical connection between the shift lever and gearbox internals.

What other parts should I replace at the same time as the shift collar?

A fresh gearbox oil change pairs naturally with the collar replacement, since both address the shifter system together. Completing the shift area with a replacement leather gear shifter boot surround is also a popular combination when refreshing the interior around the six-speed gate.

Will this collar change the shift throw or alter the gear ratios?

No. The nylon shift collar restores the original mechanical feel through the six-speed gate by eliminating play caused by a worn collar. It does not alter gearbox internals, shift throw length, or gear ratios.
