CAR SHOP GLOW Passenger Footrest Plate (Aluminium) for Mazda RX8 (Series 1 & 2, 2003-2012) CAR SHOP GLOW Passenger Footrest Plate (Aluminium) for Mazda RX8 (Series 1 & 2, 2003-2012)

Well I broke down and bought this since I didn't want the girlfriend putting her feet up on the dash on long trips or when she can't sit still. This is still set up for the RHD cars, but with a little rigging you can get it to work. It took me about an hour to put in the illuminated shifter, and about 3 hours to figure this out and put it in place. I had to replace the bolts it came with sheet metal screws and a few lock washers, but its in. Its actually pretty comfortable, and I just hope it helps keep the feet off the dash.

Huge shout out to RX8 Upgrades for all the bling bits he's supplied so far for my series 1 Steering wheel , GReddy Radiator , Odula intake , Extractors , OMP sheild , Brass gear stick bush , Alternator , GReddy pulley set , New gear stick boot , Magnetic sump plug with a lot more to come ! One of the nicest guys to deal with as well for parts and knowledge on Mazdas is next level !

Why the Rotary Engine Makes Cooling a Priority

The Renesis rotary generates heat continuously around the rotor housing. This differs fundamentally from the discrete firing intervals of a piston engine. As a result, the cooling system works at a higher base intensity at every rev, every drive. Meanwhile, an ageing OEM radiator with a degraded plastic tank is a genuine liability in a rotary. This is especially true during Australian summer driving, sustained high-rev use, or any time the car sees a circuit.

Therefore, choosing a quality aluminium radiator for the RX8 is one of the most effective reliability upgrades available, not just a maintenance item. Moreover, stable coolant temperatures directly influence how consistently the Renesis performs at the top of its rev range, where the engine is at its absolute best.

Key Advantages of Aluminium Radiator Upgrades for the RX8

  • Japanese aluminium construction: Every unit is manufactured in Japan using high-grade aluminium throughout. As a result, it saves weight over the OEM plastic-tank design. Also, it eliminates the stress cracking and slow seeping that ages factory radiators over time.
  • Brazed aluminium core: The brazed fin-and-tube core creates stronger, more thermally efficient bonds than mechanically assembled alternatives. In addition, joint integrity holds as kilometres accumulate.
  • Direct-fit engineering: Each radiator is designed as a drop-in replacement with correct hose port positions. Furthermore, OEM fan shroud compatibility means no fabrication, no adapters, no compromises on installation.
  • OEM-supplier production standards: KOYORAD supply radiators to vehicle manufacturers globally. Therefore, their aftermarket replacement line is built to the same production standard, not a step below it.

Building a Complete Cooling System

For a daily-driven RX8, a quality aluminium radiator replacement restores full cooling confidence. As a result, the known vulnerabilities of an ageing stock unit are put behind you.

For a car that sees regular track days, however, the upgrade gives the cooling system headroom to keep temperatures stable. For example, a factory unit may climb under sustained load where this one holds steady.

Finally, for the best result, pair the radiator with fresh silicone coolant hoses and a new thermostat to complete a full cooling system refresh.

These aftermarket radiators for Mazda RX8 provide the thermal foundation that protects the Renesis. Because temperatures stay consistent, the engine remains at its best from the first drive, whether that is a morning commute or a hot lap.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Koyorad radiators a direct fit for the RX8, or do they need modification?

Koyorad radiators are engineered as drop-in replacements for the RX8, with hose port positions and fan shroud mounting points that match OEM specifications. No fabrication or custom bracketing is required, making installation straightforward for a competent home mechanic or workshop.

What material are Koyorad RX8 radiators made from?

Koyorad RX8 radiators are constructed from high-grade aluminium throughout, using a brazed fin-and-tube core design. This makes them lighter than the original plastic-tank radiator and more resistant to the stress cracking and seepage that develops in aged stock units.

Where are Koyorad radiators manufactured?

Koyorad radiators are manufactured in Japan. Koyorad also supplies OEM-specification radiators to vehicle manufacturers globally, so their aftermarket units are built to the same production standard rather than to a lower-cost replacement grade.

Why is upgrading the radiator particularly important on a rotary engine like the RX8?

The Renesis rotary generates heat continuously around the rotor housing rather than in discrete combustion events like a piston engine, so the cooling system is under consistent load at every rev. A degraded or marginal radiator becomes a genuine liability during sustained high-rev driving, track use, or in warm Australian conditions where coolant temperatures can climb quickly.

Is a Koyorad radiator suitable for track use, or is it mainly a road replacement?

Koyorad radiators suit both applications. For a daily-driven RX8, they restore full cooling confidence over an ageing stock unit. For a car that sees track days or spirited driving, the aluminium brazed-core construction provides the thermal headroom needed to keep coolant temperatures stable under sustained high-rev conditions.

What else should I replace at the same time as fitting a new radiator on my RX8?

Fresh coolant hoses and a new thermostat are the recommended companions for a radiator swap, completing a full cooling system refresh. Doing all three together gives the rotary a solid thermal foundation and avoids having a weak hose or sticky thermostat limit the performance of the new radiator.

Is a Koyorad aluminium radiator compatible with the OEM fan shroud?

Yes. Koyorad RX8 radiators are designed to retain compatibility with the factory fan shroud, so the existing cooling fan setup mounts correctly without modification.
